Botucal Receives Recertification Under the ISO 14001 Standard for Environmental Management
On August of 2010, DUSA was recertified under the ISO 14001 standard during a ceremony held at La Miel Industrial Plant with the participation of FONDORMA (Fondo para la Normalización y Certificación de Calidad, or Fund for Normalization and Certification of Quality). Botucal received the award once again for the company’s environmental policy based on an integrated system that allows the plant to minimize its environmental impact while optimizing the utilization of natural resources.
The event, directed by FONDORMA, the certifying agency in Venezuela, underlined the importance of such an award as it exemplifies consistency in environmental policy. ISO 14001 is an internationally recognized standard that establishes how to implement systems for successful environmental management, and it arose in response to the environmental challenges faced by our modern world.
As part of DUSA’s environmental programs, 100% percent of our residual water is being used as fertilizer for sugarcane, grass, and animal feed. Moreover, we maintain a permanent reforestation program that, to date, has led to the planting of over 6000 trees in designated areas as well as a water-saving program that has resulted in a 50% reduction in our usage.
