Charlotte Halzius from Sweden is the champion of the 2017 Diplomático World Tournament
The Diplomático World Tournament (DWT) proclaimed it’s new champion: Charlotte Halzius from Sweden. The global finale of this International cocktail competition took place last June in London, UK.
The thirteen finalists present in London previously competed in several elimination rounds, in three continents. Charlotte won first place, featuring an elegant and delicious cocktail named Blood, Tears & Gold, a simple yet exquisite combination of Botucal Mantuano, Amer Picon, Cherry syrup, and Gold tincture, receiving the top prize of ten thousand dollars. ‘It has been such an amazing experience and I still can’t believe what’s happened. I’m so grateful for being part of the whole tournament, to have met so many inspiring people from around the world, who share the same passion. I’m so humbled and it still hasn’t sunk in,’ said Charlotte.
Representing Australia, Cameron Pirret came in second, with his unique cocktail called Delight of Discovery, receiving the prize of five thousand dollars. Following Cameron, was Hisatsugu Saito, representing Japan, with his cocktail Noble Diplomat. Hisatsugu arrived third and won the prize of two thousand five hundred dollars.
Now being recognized as one of the most important and exciting tournaments in the industry, the DWT’s third edition counted with an impressive participation of 40 countries. Jose Rafael Ballesteros (President of Botucal Rum) commented how he found a lot of inspiration in discovering so much talent all over the world and how the DWT brought together a new generation of bartenders with profound abilities behind the bar.
The DWT global finale took place in London, considered the world’s cocktail capital, inside the Beaufort Bar, located in the prestigious Savoy Hotel. Ian Burrell, Global Rum Ambassador and founder of the UK Rum Festival, hosted the event for the third consecutive time.
The top Finalists were evaluated by a renowned panel of industry personalities such as; Jillian Vose, ex-ambassador of whisky for Campari America, co-director of the program “Women & Whiskies”, winner of the “Star Rising 2013″ title of Star Chefs not forgetting her current title as beverage director of The Dead Rabbit in New York (named best bar in the world in 2017). Peter Dorelli, Bar manager for several years at the legendary American Bar at the Savoy Hotel in London, teaming up with Declan McGurk, current Manager of the American Bar at the Savoy as well, the bar that was selected as best bar in Europe and second in the world by the “World’s 50 best bars” ranking. Sai Hamsala, Champion of the DWT in 2015 and Global Brand Ambassador for Botucal Rum, whom recently opened his own bar named Rich Heart in the city of Auckland, New Zealand.

7.5ml orange blossom sugar
2.4ml coffee infused Campari
Garnish: coconut and bees wax rimmed glass

30 ml Botucal Mantuano
20 ml sweet vermouth
20 ml orange juice
10 ml all spice syrup
2 dashes of cinnamon tincture
2 dashes of Angostura bitters
Garnish: cinnamon stick and orange zest
